Start your blog

A lot of people struggle with starting a blog. And I understand the pressure that they feel, I understand the anxiety that comes with that and I truly understand why anyone would think blogging is so difficult.

I get it. I still struggle to post consistently and I sometimes ask myself if it was even worth it in the first place.

I know that it is difficult to start something like blogging because you think of in the long term - what am I going to be talking about 10 years from now? what am I going to be talking about five years from now?  what am I going to be talking about two years from now - do I have enough to say to actually start a blog?

And I’m here to tell you - Yes, you do.  You have so much to share that a blog might not even be enough to contain it all.

It is a good way of pouring out your thoughts. It is a great way of documenting your journey.

And lastly, it’s a great way for you to connect to people as much as they are open and ready to connect with you.

The first thing that you want to do when you start a blog is choosing which website or which platform would suit you best. There are quite a few options and in my honest opinion, there’s no such thing as one platform is better than others, you make it what you want it to be. That being said, take your time to research and explore - find the one that appeals to you the most. Find the one that you can easily learn to use and start.

Secondly, you might have questions like:

  • what are you going to write about?

  • what is your theme?

  • what is your message?

  • What is that one thing that you want to brand yourself as?

These are big questions that might make you feel overwhelmed and intimidating.

So how about you just start:

 - with introducing yourself

- tell us about your background

- your dreams/wishes

- challenges

- your business

- the activities that you do

- your projects

- people that you work with

- the lessons you are learning in everyday life

- about the biggest lessons that you have learned in the last five years

- tell us whatever you think we should know about you.

You are in control, whatever you post is what we will read. So start by telling us who you are and what you like?

If you do want to be niche, for example, you choose the topic “health” you want to be known as the health expert, then you can use programs like answerthepublic.com, it will provide you with a galore of topics that you can explore in your blogs. That’s also a good way to save you some time and keep you posting consistently.

The next thing to do is to choose a frequency that suits you and your schedule. The minimum you should aim for is once a week. This builds expectation, your readers will know that a certain day and a time you will be sharing something with them. They can’t wait to read it and share that moment with you. Choose a frequency that you can stick with for a long time.

Honestly, don’t be ashamed whether you think your writing is good or not, trust me as long as your grammar is fine and you use the right punctuation, somebody is going to relate to your message. Additionally, your writing is only going to improve with time. You have to work your way from a beginner to intermediate and then to advanced - this applies to any skill in life.

There is no way that you are going to jump from not knowing how to write to being a perfect writer.

You have to work through those mistakes you have to work through those growing pains to get to a place where you are a master and trust me if you can

If you could blog for six months straight nonstop twice a week by the end - you would be a much better writer than you are at this moment. Make that decision and take that step.

Start your blog.

And lastly, do not be afraid to market yourself. Do not be afraid to share your posts. Do not be afraid to be your own hype man for the longest time until you start getting the traction that you need and even still keep promoting yourself. Always find a way to plug yourself UNAPOLOGETICALLY.
