Static Playa - Days of the Guillotine

Whether it is pure luck or an incredible talent there is definitely something that makes one hit repeat when it comes to the songs by Static Playa, who real name is David John.

The young artist who released his Third EP #DaysOfTheGuillotine late last year keeps proving to himself and others that Music is much more to him than just a lyrics and a beat.

“Imagine that out of the population of about 7 billion in the world, there is just you. So make a difference however you can, for me, it’s through music.” He said.

The 20 year old was born in Kagoro, Nigeria but currently lives in Windhoek, Namibia and is not just a rapper but also a producer. “I’ve always had more respect for artists who are involved in every step of the process rather than just one aspect, but also if you are going to do just one thing, be very, very good at it” he explained.

The artist has a growing social media presence with over 10 000 twitter followers and thousands of listens on his Soundcloud page with comments from not just fans but also various music experts from around the globe.

“it’s all about using what makes you, you to make music”, He added.

His list of features include Zacc Starks (US), KK ,Lioness , Lo Ski, Marven Southgate (Nam), Eric Whitacre (US), and Kelly Henry (Nigeria).

It is clear from the support he receives that even as an underground artist having achieved so much his fans expects him to only get bigger and better.

“I like to look around me and hear what is out there before when I sit down to work on my stuff I make sure that it’s different,” he stressed that artists should not only try to follow the trend but do it in a way that when you look back your art is able to stand out and not blend into the shadows of the trends.

In a previous interview he said, “The public knows me as they wish to. They make their judgment off the music and create a mental picture of what they would like to see.”, which he said he prefers because he never lies in his songs and can defend every single word he has said/sung/rapped, but encourages that the public listens to every lyric and can then be open to his messages.

The rapper recently released a video in Youtube for his song, Didn’t you know which features samples from the famous Erykah Badu, this song is on his latest EP Days of the Guillotine.
